A YOUNG BOY has become a karate expert just 12 months after a dangerous stroke nearly killed him in front of his mum.

Calum Quigley, aged 12, from Anglesey Avenue in Hailsham, was awarded a black belt after a gruelling exam by the Sama Karate organisation on Friday last week, August 12.

The achievement is even greater because a year ago the Ringmer Community College pupil faced a lifetime in a wheelchair after he suffered a serious stroke caused by encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain.
