CHILDREN from All Saints and St Richard’s School, Old Heathfield are in no danger of losing touch with life outside the classroom.
The youngsters are lucky enough to have weekly outdoor learning lessons when they venture into school grounds, learn about wildlife, plants, nature and farming.
Horam farmer John Brooksbank who runs The Great Outtours visits the school every week. Just before half term he took three orphaned lambs to meet the children, who enjoyed bottle feeding them all.
John said: “Life today means lots of children seldom get into the countryside, so we try to take the countryside to them. It’s not just fun – everything we do is curriculum-linked, so has positive input into the subjects they are learning.”
Topics move with the seasons so there’s always something to talk about. Ring John on: 01825 729158.
