LEWES BONFIRE 2015: Essential travel details for the event

Large parts of Lewes will be affected by road closures today (Thursday, November 5).

On-street parking will be suspended on certain streets from 2pm and a number of roads will be closed from 5pm until 3am. Residents are advised to have cars home before 5pm to avoid closures. Any vehicles that remain will be towed from 4pm.

Those with a residents’ parking permit and need assistance on alternative parking locations should contact The Parking Shop, Lewes.

Normal parking controls for on-street and car parks will resume at 8am the next day.

Visitors are advised to travel by public transport, although stations are likely to be heavily congested.

The last trains from Lewes are as follows: 23.51 to Hastings (calling at Berwick, Polegate, Hampden Park, Eastbourne, Pevensey & Westham, Cooden Beech, Collington, Bexhill, St Leonards Warrior Sq and Hastings); 23.58 to Seaford (calling at Newhaven Town, Newhaven Harbour, Bishopstone and Seaford); 00.22 to Brighton(calling at Falmer, Moulsecoomb, London Road and Brighton); and 01.23 to Eastbourne (calling at Polegate, Hampden Park and Eastbourne).

Diversions will be in place for traffic to travel outside the town. The A26 and A27 will be open to through traffic for the event’s duration.
