Tinned vegetables, pasta and long-life milk are being collected by building society staff to help stock the shelves at a food bank in Lewes.

The Yorkshire Building Society agency at M & W Associates, on Cliffe High Street, has become an official collection point for Landport Food Bank which supports some of the most vulnerable people in the town.

Anita Morley, proprietor of M&W Associates, said: “Landport Food Bank is a fantastic charity which provides a lifeline to many people facing crisis within our community.”

People have to be referred by a doctor or social worker before they can access the Food Bank. Then they are given an emergency food parcel containing basic supplies such rice, fruit juice and lentils. The agency is open for donations from 9am to 5pm Mondays to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm on Wednesdays and from 9am until noon on Saturdays.
