Property developer Rydon has proved to be top of the class after giving local school pupils the chance to design one of the bedrooms at its latest development – Crosshaven at Lewes.

It is believed to be the first time a developer has ever carried out a competition of this

nature.

South Malling Primary school, situated next to the development in Church Lane, were invited to take part in a competition to create the interior design for one of the bedrooms, with the best design being chosen and used for real in the show home.

Proving she had great natural flair for interior design, winning pupil Jodie Thompsett, aged 10, was judged by interior design company Andrew Henry Interiors to have created the best design, including such features as multi-coloured handprints on the walls and a round fluffy green rug.

Andrew Henry Interiors then brought this design to life for Jodie by creating it in the new show home. Last week, Jodie was given her drawing framed and given a guided tour of the show home and, of course, her dream bedroom.

Also in attendance were Ruth O’Keeffe, the Mayor Elect from Lewes Town Council, Jo O’Donoghue, Headteacher of South Malling Primary, Jodie’s parents and two of her friends.

Cllr O’Keeffe, commented: “This is a great idea from Rydon, it’s really good to get the local community involved.

“I was very interested to hear about the pupils’ contribution to the interior design for the properties near their school and I hope this will set a precedent for other developers to introduce young people to the world of interior design and housebuilding in a practical and positive way.”

Head Jo O’Donoghue said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to Rydon Homes. This is something we’ve never participated in before and it’s really opened our eyes.

“It has been great for the children to be involved in such a wonderful experience. I must say from the moment Rydon bought the site next door, it’s been a very positive partnership with the school and long may it continue.”

This family-oriented development of just seven, three-bedroom townhouses has been built within a cul-de-sac to create a private and desirable new community of homes.

Just moments from the town centre of Lewes, with its wealth of amenities, Crosshaven is situated within the South Downs National Park and enjoys wonderful views.
