The Lost Sons of Lewes will be the title of a talk arranged by Lewes History Group on Monday May 11.
Geoff Bridger’s illustrated talk will take place just a few days after the centenary of the Battle of Aubers Ridge on the Western Front, which involved the 2nd and 5th Battalions of the Royal Sussex Regiment.
Geoff will explain the context to the battle, its planning and execution and the roles played in the attack by the two Royal Sussex battalions.
Finally he will talk about four Lewes soldiers who died in the war, as well as their civilian and family backgrounds.
The venue is King’s Church building, Brooks Road. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start and everyone is welcome. There is a charge on the door of £3 for non-members and £2 for members but refreshments are free.
