Lewes play enjoys run in famous London theatre

A PLAY which premiered last year in Lewes is enjoying a season at The Old Red Lion, London’s prestigious and oldest pub theatre.

Playing Pinter, a hilarious homage to the recently departed playwright, was penned by Lewes resident Sean O’Kane and performed at the town’s Phoenix Theatre.

In this affectionate tribute inspired by Pinter’s The Caretaker, O’Kane plays the itinerant Mac Davies, who hears the voice of the Nobel Laureate in his head.

“I have played Mac Davies many times and always loved him as a sad, infuriating, frustrating, ridiculous and wonderfully mean character,” he said. “I have taken him out of context of the playwright’s script and play him in a bitter and often funny supplication with his creator.” Playing Pinter continues until January 28.
