There was a remarkable conclusion to this year’s annual Lewes Skittles Tournament.
Both last year’s winning teams managed to retain their titles in the face of fierce competition.
All-conquering Brinky’s Boys won the men’s competition again, and with it the Lewes Prison Cup and £100 donated by The Shoe Gallery.
They pipped WAP 1, the runners-up, with £25 from Parker Building Supplies.
Meanwhile, those dynamic ladies from the Blank Robbers – mainly Lewes hairdressers – triumphed for the second year running to clinch the Sussex Express Cup and £50 in prize money.
They finished ahead of the Glitzy Gals, who took the British Legion Shield and £25 from Parker Building Supplies.
The Blank Robbers double winners were Katie Olliver, Emma Taylor, Trista Fife, Annette Turner, Michelle Redshaw, Zena Sale and Marie Hart.
And the secret to success for this feisty bunch? “We’re all best mates and we play for each other!”
David Clarke, of tournament organisers the Rotary Club of Lewes, said the fact the leading teams held on to their trophies proved that “despite the undulations of the track and other vagaries, consistent skill will out”.
The Bonfire Cup and £50 from ICS Roofing was won by Lewes Borough Bonfire Society.
