Lions car rally nets record total for charity

VINTAGE and classic cars took to the roads of East Sussex to raise money for a transport charity with a difference.

The eighth annual car rally run by Uckfield and District Lions Club raised a record £1,550 which will help pay for a new driving carriage specially designed for the Herons Ghyll Driving for the Disabled Group and capable of being driven by anyone in a wheelchair. The rally started at 10am at the Halfway House pub in Isfield and 57 vehicles ranging from an 80-year-old roadster to modern family cars tackled the 50 mile route through Uckfield, Shortbridge, Newick, Chailey, Wivelsfield, Haywards Heath, Lindfield, Borde Hill, Ardingly, Turners Hill, Sharpthorne, Wych Cross, Nutley, Piltdown and back to Isfield. The group and friends who enjoyed a pig roast laid on by Lions Club members.
