A27 to be closed overnight between Lewes and Brighton for safety improvements

Sections of the A27 between Brighton and Lewes will be closed overnight for just under two weeks to allow safety improvements to be carried out.

The Highways Agency started work on the A27 Brighton Bypass safety improvements on Monday March 18 between the Devil’s Dyke interchange and the Ashcombe roundabout near Lewes.

Work will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am from Monday 18 March until Thursday 28 March.

Improvements include installing new warning signs, replacing signs, replacing parts of the safety barrier, resurfacing and high friction surfacing at several locations, and refreshing line markings.

Work started on the eastbound carriageway on Monday March 18 and will continue until Friday March 22 before moving onto the westbound carriageway from Friday March 22 until Thursday March 28.

The carriageway will be closed between the Devil’s Dyke interchange and Beddingham roundabout with a diversion route via the A2038, A259 and A26.

Residents living within the closure will be escorted through the work with help from staff onsite.
