Accident causes traffic chaos

LONG tailbacks have been reported following an accident between a pedestrian and a car.

Part of the C7 has been closed since 7.30am after an accident in Newhaven.

A woman pedestrian, aged in her 70s, was involved in a collision with a car between the junctions with Evelyn Avenue and Elphick Road.

She suffered serious injuries but they are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road has been closed as far as Kingston.

Traffic is reported to be gridlocked in the centre of Newhaven and is having a knock on effect on the A259 and A27.
