Accidental overdose killed Louise, 20

A POPULAR 20-year-old woman died after taking too many painkillers in a bid to deal with crippling stomach pains.

Louise Jones, of The Crescent, Newhaven, was found collapsed at her boyfriend's house, in Meeching Road, Newhaven, on February 27.

An inquest in Eastbourne on Tuesday heard Louise, who worked as a carer at Searchlight Residential Home, had been suffering from Polysystic Ovarian Syndrome.

On the night she died she had taken 21 doses of a strong painkiller called Diconol which was prescribed to her boyfriend Robin Tucknott.

The inquest heard she had been in pain for around eight weeks and was sick almost daily.

Her father, Jeff Jones, a paramedic at Newhaven Ambulance Station, said she would be greatly missed.

Speaking after the inquest he said: 'Lou was always described as a hoot by her teachers.

'I don't think it did a lot for her education, but she was a very popular young lady.

'Her greatest love was animals but different boyfriends talked her out of finishing her three year course at Plumpton after two years.

'Last July we sent her to Africa to work on a safari park for a month, she did it with one of her school friends, that was her plan, she wanted to go back to Africa for a longer period.'

The inquest heard Mr Tucknott, now of South Coast Road, Telscombe Cliffs, and Louise had been together for eight weeks and recently got engaged.

The day Louise died had been his birthday.

He said: 'I met my friends for dinner. We walked along with that couple while they walked their dogs, she (Louise) started being sick over the wall.'

Louise went home and said she would telephone her boyfriend to let him know how she was.

Mr Tucknott said he received several texts from her during the night but returned home to find her collapsed on the floor.

Paramedic Ronald McAra, told the inquest he had also been to treat Louise two weeks before after a similar incident.

He said: 'I realised I had been there on duty about two weeks previously. I realised it was Louise Jones, daughter of Jeff Jones.'

Paramedics and a doctor attempted to revive Louise but she died at the house.

Coroner Alan Craze recorded a verdict of accidental death.

He said: 'This was a simple accident. She had taken a similar overdose two or three weeks before hand, on being questioned on that there was no question in her mind of taking them with the intention of killing herself, she was just in terrible pain and carried on taking pills.

'Undoubtedly the more of those pills she took, the more and more confused she would have become.'

Mr Jones added: 'She was just a lovely girl, everybody loved her.'

Louise also leaves her mother Rose and sister Victoria, 23.
