ALL-WEATHER PITCH HOPE

An initial report into the feasibility of providing a synthetic turf pitch at the Victoria Pleasure Ground, Uckfield, has shown it would cost in the region of £380,000 plus VAT.

Chairman of the town council's leisure committee said that the report showed it was likely to generate income of about 63,000 in the first year rising to 90,000 in the tenth year.

A potential source of funding was the Football Foundation Capital Projects Scheme which might match-fund up to 50 per cent of the cost.

To qualify the council would have to draw up a football development plan which would include details of the amount of schools' use envisaged and community club links.

The committee agreed the next step should be to hold a meeting inviting authors of the report, interested sports clubs and site neighbours before progressing further.
