The developers who wanted to convert the historic Drill Hall in Seaford have applied to Lewes District Council to alter their plans.
They have asked to be allowed to keep the garage at the back and convert it into a flat for one of the developers and investors Neil Moffet.
The building was previously used by the Territorial Army Centre and is in Broad Street.
It had fallen into disrepair over a number of years.
The developers and investors, Neil Moffett, Chris Goodman and Ralph Gilbert, were granted planning permission in May 2013 to turn the Drill Hall into eight two-bedroom apartments spread over two floors, two two-bedroom flats and two one-bedroom flats.
The Drill Hall has been used for a variety of functions since it was built, including as a concert hall.
