Southern Railways is continuing to operate an amended time table today (Tuesday January 22) due to the snow and ice.

However the train operator said this would be subject to alteration with some cancellations.

A notice on Southern’s website said: “We would like to apologise to you if your journeys over the last few days have been disrupted.

“Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to provide you with the best possible service in these difficult conditions, and we thank you for your patience.”

Gatwick Airport said it was operating normally today, but said passengers should expect some delays to flights due to weather conditions across the UK and Europe.

It advised people to check the status of flight with their airline before travelling to the airport.

The airport also said due to freezing conditions overnight, some rail connections might be affected, so advised checking with the train operator and ensuring plenty of time for the journey.
