Asbestos caused man's death

A HALLAND man who worked as a builder before running his own garage died as a direct result of exposure to asbestos.

At an Eastbourne inquest, East Sussex coroner Alan Craze recorded a verdict of death from industrial disease on John Leonard Arthur Lavender.

Mr Lavender was 61 when he died at his home, Honeys Green Caravan Park, Easons Green, on October 10 last year after suffering from mesothelioma.

Post mortem evidence showed Mr Lavender was suffering from a large tumour which had caused his right lung to collapse.
