Attempted burglary in Uckfield
A MAN was arrested following an alleged failed late night attempt to break into an Uckfield garage, according to police.
Passers-by saw men trying to break down the brick wall of the Esso garage in Bell Farm Road, Uckfield at 10.30pm on Sunday, September 23.
The suspects used what is believed to be at least one sledgehammer. The men ran off when they saw the passers-by.
Police later pulled over a white transit-type van near East Grinstead as part of the investigation.
A 19-year old man from Mitcham, South London, was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, theft of the van, and going equipped to steal.
Police also seized items including a sledgehammer, which were in the van.
