Ban 'rat run' lorries, says MP

LORRIES should be banned from a Seaford rat run, says MP Norman Baker. He has called for traffic controls at Blatchington Hill.

Mr Baker wrote to East Sussex County Council director of trransport and environment Rupert Clubb to ask for a traffic count to take place after residents raised concerns.

Mr Baker said: 'The Blatchington Hill area of Seaford is supposed to be a Conservation Area, and it is very important that the character of the area is not spoilt by high volumes of traffic, and by HGVs in particular.

'Indeed, the residential nature of the area also means that a review of the traffic rules in the area is even more of a priority.

'I hope the county council will view this situation as an opportunity to take positive action.'

Cllr Jon Freeman added: 'Given the extensive residential building continuing in the immediate area, it is no wonder that there continues to be rat running and large volumes of traffic on the road.

'Children on their way to school and disabled people should be able to have safe access to their local area, not be scared off the streets due to heavy traffic.'

A spokesman for East Sussex County Council said: 'We have received a letter from Mr Baker and are looking into it.'
