Banish January blues in new choir opening in Uckfield

Established singing group inChoir is opening in Uckfield. The first session is from 8-9.30pm on January 20 at Holy Cross School and anyone can turn up.

Musical director Mark Heppell said: “Why not go along and sing yourself happy – a perfect antidote to January blues. A study at Oxford Brookes University found people who sing in choirs show markedly high levels of well being.”

He said inChoir is for people who like to sing; there is no audition, no need to sing solo, no need to read music, and no commitment to pay up front or come every week. People who have never sung before, experienced singers, or anyone in between are all welcome.

The first branch opened in East Grinstead in2009. It now runs in Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Crowborough, Crawley, and Tunbridge Wells. They sing straightforward three-part arrangements of uplifting modern songs from Olly Murs to Sinatra and anything in between. Members have sung at the Minack Theatre; Assembly Halls,Tunbridge Wells; Clair Hall, Haywards Heath, Christmas markets and the Finnish Arctic Circle as well as fetes and shopping centres. Last year they raised almost £13,000 for local charities. Ring 01342 713068. www.inchoir.uk.
