Beware bogus council tricksters

Wealden residents are being asked to be on the alert for confidence tricksters who are knocking on peoples' doors - and in some cases telephoning - saying they are from Wealden District Council.

Wealden residents are being asked to be on the alert for confidence tricksters who are knocking on peoples' doors - and in some cases telephoning - saying they are from Wealden District Council. These tricksters offer to arrange for a reduction in the resident's council tax banding but say they need details of their personal bank accounts to pay the refund into.

A council spokesman says: "Please do not give your financial details to strangers. All Wealden District Council staff carry clear photo identification. Please contact the Council on: 01323 443385 if you think you have been approached by one of these bogus callers."
