BREAKING NEWS: Man dies after electric shock
A MAN has died after an incident involving an electric shock at a disused plastics factory in Hailsham.
The incident happened at Shep Plastics, a disused industrial unit on the A22 at 4pm on Thursday last week, April 8. Police, firefighters and ambulance crews rushed to the scene to find two men had suffered an electric shock.
One of the men, aged 27, was airlifted by Sussex Air Ambulance to Eastbourne District General Hospital and then to the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.
He was in a critical condition and an air ambulance report said the man had burns in his face, hands and he needed pain relief.
The 27-year-old died at the Queen Victoria Hospital as a result of his injuries on Monday night, April 12.
Police said the other man was released from hospital after treatment for minor burns on Monday night.
It is alleged an electric motor was involved in the incident.
Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have referred the incident to the coroner's officer.
Shep Plastics folded on January 22 2010 – as reported in the Express at the time. Some 58 employees lost their jobs at the injection moulding company which was first set up in 1973.
