Brian Smith Achievement Awards open for nominations

NEWHAVEN, Peacehaven and Seaford Lions Club is again asking for nominations for the Brian Smith Achievement Award.

The award is now in its 15th year having been set up in 1997 as a permanent memorial to one of the Club’s Past Presidents.

Brian had spent his life dedicated to helping young people and for twelve years was the Head Teacher of East Quinton School (now Cuckmere House School) in Seaford. The Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford Lions Club is looking for boys and girls who have won through “against the odds.” For example, a young person who has overcome a serious illness or is exceptionally brave in spite of a disability or a young person who cares for a sick or disabled person.

Winners will receive a cheque for £100 and a Silver Cup inscribed with their name.

The young person nominated must live in the Seaford , Newhaven and Peacehaven/Telscombe Cliffs area and be no younger than six years of age and no more than 17 on June 1 2011.

Send your nominations by March 31 to Lion Derek MacGarvie, Youth Officer, 1 Princes Close, Kingsmead, Seaford, East Sussex. BN25 2EW.

Included in the nominations should be the reasons for their choice and the young person’s Name, DOB, Address and telephone number.
