Bumper season hoped for at Arlington Reservoir

WITH water levels at Arlington Reservoir improving, South East Water is preparing for what is hoped to be a bumper fishing season.

The rain during December and at the beginning of the year has improved the reservoir’s water level, which is currently 66 per cent full.

As a result, around 1,500 rainbow trout will be put into Arlington Reservoir towards the end of this month, ready for the start of the season.

The 120-acre reservoir site lies at the foot of the South Downs and fishing is the only form of recreation allowed on the water.

Emma Goddard, South East Water’s Environmental Manager, said: “It is always an exciting time when we begin restocking the reservoir for the start of the new fishing season.

“We will be restocking the reservoir regularly over the coming months with a total of around 7,000 trout expected during the fishing season.

“Anyone can fish, whether they are experienced, a novice, from the local area or travelling from further afield.

“Arlington Reservoir is one of the finest rainbow trout fisheries in the South East of England and is surrounded by a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest.”

The fishing seasons starts tomorrow (Saturday) and continues until June 30, with boat fishing starting on April 1.

For those who want to try their hand at fly-fishing, South East Water is again running its popular Beginner Days, which this year will take place on April 21 and May 19. Staff will be on hand to teach beginners all they need to know about getting started and all the equipment is provided.

Anyone wishing to fish at Arlington or wanting to book a place on a Beginner Day should contact 01323 870810 (ext 20) or visit www.southeastwater.co.uk/fishing for further information.
