Burglaries prompt warning

A CREEPER burglar has carried out a spate of night-time break-ins in Lewes - while unsuspecting homeowners were sleeping upstairs.

The prowler broke into four different homes in just one night and police are warning the public not to approach any intruders or people acting suspiciously outside their homes.

On Tuesday night the burglar struck at two homes in Pelham Terrace and at addresses in Paddock Terrace and Grange Road.

In each case the occupants were at home but completely unaware of what happened until they came downstairs the following morning.

A laptop, handbags, wallets and several credit cards were stolen after the intruders forced their way in through back windows, patios and in one instance forcing open the front door.

PC James Vitler from Lewes police, said: 'Our advice is not to challenge any intruders and to phone us immediately.

'People need to make sure their homes are secure and not left unsecured at night.

'And also contact us if they see anyone hanging around at night looking suspicious.'

If you have any information about these crimes call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.
