Bus routes to be altered during Lewes Late Night Shopping today

Don’t get caught out as buses will be diverted during Lewes Late Night Shopping today (Thursday 6 December).

The High Street will be closed to traffic from 5.30pm until 9pm as the annual event takes place.

During the period of closure, all Brighton and Hove Buses services 28 and 29/29B will operate direct from the Kingston Ridge roundabout via the bypass and Cuilfail Tunnel in both directions to the Tesco roundabout just east of the town centre, where services will drop off and pick up.

The rest of the town centre and bus station will not be served.

Here’s a summary of diversions for Rider buses:

Rider bus service 143. The 17.25 bus will leave from Lewes Bus Station to Laughton and Hailsham via the service road behind Waitrose, Phoenix Causeway, East Street, Little East Street and Phoenix Causeway. The stop at the top of School Hill will not be served

Rider bus service 125 at 17.38 will leave from Lewes Bus Station to Alfriston and will also leave via the service road behind Waitrose, Phoenix Causeway, East Street, Little East Street and Phoenix Causeway. Stops in Friars Walk, Station Street, Fisher Street and West Street will not be served.

Rider bus service 121 at 18.20 and 19.00 and bus service 166 at 17.25 and 18.35 travelling to Offham and beyond. These buses will leave the town via Eastgate Street, Friars Walk, Southover Road, Southover High Street, Bell Lane, Winterbourne Hollow and the prison crossroads, picking up their normal routes in Nevill Road. Stops in School Hill, Station Street, High Street and Western Road will not be served.

Rider bus service 127 at 1710 from Friars Walk to Landport Estate will be the last journey to operate. This journey will not be able to serve the Friars Walk stop upon its return to Lewes town centre. It will instead terminate at the stop in West Street, or, if requested by passengers, the stop at Waitrose.

Nevill service: The journey at 1715 from Lewes Bus Station will leave the town via its normal route but after serving Nevill Estate will travel northwards on A275 Nevill Road returning to the Bus Station via Offham Road, Whitehill and West Street.

The journey at 1755 from the Bus Station will operate via Eastgate Street, Friars Walk, Southover Road, Southover High Street, Bell Lane, Winterbourne Hollow and the prison crossroads, picking up its normal route in Nevill Road. Stops in Station Street, High Street and Western Road will not be served.
