Calls for safety measures after cyclist's crash death
Calls have been made for more road safety measures to be put in place after a cyclist was killed near West Stoke on Monday.
Chairman of Funtington Parish Council Jim Sewell said councillors have been campaigning to get mobile speed cameras for the area for the past few months.
He said more and more people were speeding through West Stoke and Funtington, which are becoming 'rat-run' areas for cars going to and from Chichester.
Mr Sewell said he wants more road safety warnings to be put in East Ashling and West Stoke.
The cyclist, believed to be in his 70s, died from his injuries after the crash with a Vauxhall Corsa.
The accident happened at the Downs Road junction with West Stoke Road at 10.49am. He is believed to be a local man.
Senior investigating officer Sergeant Damian Merri-field said: "More cyclists will be using the roads because of the good weather conditions.
"I would urge all motorists to be extra careful and allow cyclists additional space.
"Like the adverts say, always have a second glance when you are pulling out at junctions."
Sussex Police is appealing for witnesses to the incident to step forward. They can contact the police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Op Clayhill.
