Celebrating Uckfield’s Air Cadets
Families, friends and staff celebrated the achievements of the Air Cadets of 2530 Uckfield Squadron Air Training Corps at the Uckfield Civic Centre on Friday (March 1).
Uckfield Mayor John Carvey was invited to formally inspect the cadets and present awards achieved in 2012 ranging from sports, shooting, fieldcraft, BTEC and community service.
The Squadron is involved in a number of local activities including helping Uckfield Bonfire Society close the roads for the bonfire parade.
Almost 60 cadets undertake a wide variety of activities including flying, Duke of Edinburgh Award, first aid, canoeing, scuba diving, climbing, overseas expeditions and annual camps with the Royal Air Force.
The Air Training Corps is open to young people between the ages of 13 and 17.
2530 Uckfield Squadron meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at their unit within the grounds of Uckfield Community Technology College, Downsview Crescent between 7pm and 9.30pm.
The squadron is hosting an open evening on Tuesday (March 12) when young people who are interested in becoming an Air Cadet are welcome to visit with parents or guardians.
