A PUBLIC exhibition about proposals to develop the Railway Quarter in Newhaven will be staged on Wednesday February 29 from 3pm to 8pm.

Arrowcroft will display plans and information at Newhaven Railway Club, in Railway Approach, allowing members of the public to meet the project team and give their views on the scheme.

The aim is to enable the developer to understand what local people think of the proposals before a detailed planning application is submitted to Lewes District Council.

The Railway Quarter development includes an improved entrance to the port, a brand new ferry terminal building and improved passenger and freight vehicle stacking facilities, the restoration of the vacant listed workshop buildings, a new public riverside boardwalk and moorings.

A new food store providing around 350 new jobs will be built alongside the river, with Tesco currently planning to take on the store. Improved parking facilities and a new transport interchange, providing a better connection to the town centre and a new, attractive setting for Newhaven Town Railway Station are part of the scheme too.

Arrowcroft said the project would stimulate economic growth and revitalise Newhaven town centre.

The developer explained it would improve the local environment, enhance perceptions of Newhaven and elevate the role of the town as a regionally significant port.

The redevelopment of Railway Quay is one of five strategic priorities laid out in the port masterplan issued last month, and is critical to enable delivery of the port and the region’s regeneration plans.

Arrowcroft development director Daniel Carter said “We have received some positive feedback already, via the consultation website.

“We look forward to meeting local residents and discussing our plans with them at the exhibition.”

Arrowcroft has launched a website, www.railwayquarternewhaven.co.uk, which includes full details about the scheme and enables visitors to take part in an online consultation.

The development team can also be contacted by email on info@railwayquarternewhaven.co.uk or by post at Railway Quarter, c/o Brandcast Media, 16 – 17 Little Portland Street, London, W1W 8BP.

It is one of three planning applications which include a supermarket and redevelopment in the pipeline for Newhaven.
