Chickens fall off lorry
CHICKENS were rescued after falling off a lorry.
A woman was outside her home in a lane near Hailsham when she saw lots of chickens fall from a lorry, thought to be heading for slaughter.
She took the birds into her garden and later called East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS.
Maz Marriott, WRAS duty co-ordinator, said some chickens had escaped.
He said: 'Some fell off the lorry that we have been unable to catch and find.'
The surviving chickens have been taken to Sussex Horse Rescue Sanctuary at Uckfield.
They will live out the rest of their days at the sanctuary with other chickens already there.
