Community nurse pounding the streets for cancer support charity
A community nurse is running the Hastings Half Marathon after being inspired to take part by the suffering she sees each day.
Becky Duggan, 37, has been visiting patients at their homes on a daily basis for the last 13 years and decided to take up the challenge after seeing the great work done by charities locally.
The mum of two from Silverhill works out of Roebuck Surgery and will be raising funds for the Sara Lee Trust - a charity which provides care and support to cancer patients.
She said: "In the work I do I see lots of poorly people who are being helped. The Sara Lee Trust is a special local charity and I have seen first hand the great work it does.
"Hopefully I can raise as much as possible for them."
Mrs Duggan has already started training, or as she calls it "plodding for about 18 months".
She said: "I am putting all my clocked up mileage into doing the half marathon. It is something I have always wanted to do and is on my list of things to do before I turn 40."
So she is well prepared but, if she needs support she won't have to look far. Both her husband and her son are taking part in the annual fundraiser. "They are being very supportive so far but I am expecting a little light teasing," said Mrs Duggan. "And my daughter is taking part in the mini run so it will be a real family experience.
"I just hope I make it to the finish line before it gets dark."
To sponsor Mrs Duggan, who has so far raised more than 300, either visit: www.justgiving.com/becky-duggan or pop into the Roebuck Surgery in High Street, Ore Clinic in Old London Road or the Arthur Blackman Centre in Battle Road.
