Cyclist assaulted in Newhaven in broad daylight

A CYCLIST suffered facial injuries when he was hit by another cyclist in Newhaven in the middle of the day.

The 22-year-old victim, from Seaford, required treatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton after the assault in The Drove at around 12.20pm on Thursday (September 13).

PC Simon Burrows said: “This was a most unusual assault. The victim doesn’t know his attacker and was just cycling along when he was suddenly struck with some force.

“He required stitches for a cut to his face and also suffered swelling around his mouth and left eye.”

His assailant, who was cycling in the opposite direction when he launched his attack, He was described as a black man, around 6ft2, with a ponytail or long braids, wearing a cycling helmet and cycling shorts and heading towards Newhaven centre.

Anyone who witnessed the assault or recognises the description is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 675 of 13/09.
