Death crash victim was Bonfire stalwart

Townsfolk have been shocked by the tragic death of a Bonfire stalwart.

Paul Wheeler, 54, of Market Lane, Lewes, died when he was hit by a car on the A27 AT 10.10pm on Saturday, opposite the Newmarket Inn, near Lewes.

Mr Wheeler, a Commercial Square member, was pushing his bicycle across the A27 when he was in collision with a white Vauxhall car.

He died at the scene.
