DJ'S RECORD AIM
POLEGATE DJ Craig Bishop, aka DJ Fergus, is embarking on the challenge of a lifetime to attempt to break into the Guinness Book of Records by playing music for more than 81 hours, the current record.
He heads to Flava, a bar in Eastbourne today (Thursday, August 25) and will be playing until Sunday or even Monday for at least 84 hours.
Fergus, 34, hopes to raise more than 20,000 for four charities, Everyman (funding research into male cancers), Eastbourne District General Hospital children's ward, St Wilfrid's Hospice and the Royal Sussex County Hospital's renal unit.
Craig said: 'I am really excited and nervous about my challenge and am determined to beat the record for all of my friends, family and sponsors.
'No-one on the planet has ever played for as long so I don't expect it to be easy.
'I am very busy preparing very seriously for the event aside from all the practice I get at work.
'I've been involved with all the charities in some ways during my life like so many other people, so I am determined to raise all the money and profiles of the charities so I can support the vital work that is being carried out by these amazing places.'
Craig and his friends are still fundraising and he praised local people for their support.
He said: 'The University of Sussex is helping with my nutrition and the nurses at EDGH will be keeping an eye on my physical and mental health.
'My family and friends are all digging deep but I'm looking for more support to beat the target.'
Southern FM's Jack the Lad will also be broadcasting live from the event between 6.30am and 9am today (Friday).
