Dog thieves strike in Hailsham parish

THREE men are suspected of stealing a dog and trying to snatch another in Hailsham.

A homeowner in Observatory View heard his dogs barking outside at 11pm on Wednesday, September 19.

He went to investigate and found that one of his dogs, a Lurcher breed, had gone missing.

The man saw a van-type vehicle parked nearby with three men inside which then drove away.

Around the same time, another victim in Battle Road saw some men trying to steal his dog but he managed to stop them.

The men were all described as wearing dark clothes, hats and gloves.

Police said the vehicle was believed to be a Daihatsu van with a blue stripe down the side.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to phone police on 101 quoting serial 1859 of September 19.

Lurchers are known to be affectionate and loving dogs who enjoy the leadership of their owners.

They were originally bred to hunt hares and rabbits in the 1600s and have fast agile movements with hunting instincts although they are usually gentle with people.
