Dog mess on Peacehaven pitch causes problems for youth football team
MOST FOOTBALLERS have the problem of avoiding injury when they are on the pitch – but a Peacehaven team have another issue to worry about.
Dog mess has been causing havoc for the Peacehaven Juniors football team after an ‘increasing amount’ has been left behind on the pitch.
Peacehaven Town Council said Junior footballers are having a torrid time at Peacehaven Sports Park, with dog owners making their life a misery by not picking up their animals’ mess.
Assistant town clerk, Steve Keogh, said: “A junior football team manager has enough to do without having to pick up piles of dog mess before a match.
“As most people will know there are certain bacteria in dog faeces that can cause issues with blindness in young children and these irresponsible people are putting these children at risk.
“Responsible dog owners are asked to ensure they pick up their dogs mess and take it home or use one of the dog bins in the area.”
Chairman of the council’s leisure and amenities committee cllr Alan Sargen said: “In Peacehaven there are many places which can be used for dog walking that are not used for sport.
“There are parks around the town which provide a healthy environment for the walking and exercising dogs and they are plenty of dog bins to deposit dog waste in at the end of a walk.”
