Double yellow lines to prevent accidents in LEWES

Double yellow lines are about to be painted in Bell Lane, Lewes, to stop cars parking along the notoriously awkward stretch of road.

It has come about as part of the Lewes Parking Review, where a recommendation to implement the scheme was upheld for safety reasons and to reduce traffic congestion.

The move has been welcomed by local Councillor Ruth O’Keeffe, who said she had received “massive” correspondence on the subject from residents.

She said: “There have been a number of near misses in Bell Lane and a couple of collisions, thankfully without anyone being hurt. I’m convinced double yellow lines will prevent a horrible accident from happening.”

The work is due to be undertaken on Monday. Stop/go boards will be in operation.
