Drivers warned to be on lookout for deer on roads

DRIVERS have been warned to take care as deer are now more likely to run in the road than at any other time of the year.

East Sussex County Council said drivers should take extra care this spring and watch out near deer warning signs.

A spokesman said: "There tend to be more deer running across roads around March as food is scarce and they need to go further to look for it.

"This, combined with the explosion in the deer population in recent years, has lead to an increase in the number of deer and vehicle collisions."

In Ashdown Forest area there have been more than 300 collisions each year for the past three years.
