A ‘LARGE quantity’ of what is believed to be a class A drug was discovered by Wealden police carrying out a search at the Crowborough Cross public house on Friday, September 14.

With the help of Wealden District Council and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, officers entered the pub at around 5.30pm after intelligence regarding drugs at the property.

Searches were made of a number of people and the area by police officers and police dogs.

A 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, both from Crowborough, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

They were questioned and bailed until November 14.

PC Stephen Etherington, licensing officer for Wealden, said: “We will meet with the brewery and Wealden Council to look at the issues that have been raised. We take all matters like this extremely seriously.”

Inspector Tony Wakefield, of the Wealden neighbourhood policing team, said: “This search was carried out in response to information given to us by members of the community.

“Large quantities of illegal drugs were seized and two arrests made.

“The operation included East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and Wealden District Council, who played an important part in the overall success.”

A spokesman for the licensing authority, Wealden District Council, said: “This is a serious matter.

“We are meeting with the police and the owners, Punch Taverns, to discuss the on-going management of the premises.”
