Five teenagers who have recently left Heathfield Community College Sixth Form have just taken part in a skydive to raise money for CLIC Sargent, the charity supporting children with cancer and leukaemia, and their families.

The intrepid five - Freya Voss, James Morrell, Zoe Naylor, Danielle Archer and Ashleigh Davis - jumped from 12,000 ft over Headcorn Airfield in Kent to raise more than £2,500 as part of ongoing fundraising for the charity since Freya’s diagnosis with Hodgkins Lymphoma in February this year.

The charity has already benefited to the tune of £5000 raised from a series of events throughout the year including a walk, cake sale and raffle organised by Freya’s and James’ mothers, Fyonna Voss and Sarah Morrell. They are hoping to raise even more money at a craft and gift fair to be held at the Dunn Village Hall, Rushlake Green this Saturday, October 20.

Freya and her family were in fine form wearing their fundraising T-shirts together with Heathfield-based Olympic torch bearer and neighbour, Derek Mepham, at the Rushlake Green Horticultural Society show and fair earlier this year.

Fyonna said: “Since Freya’s diagnosis, CLIC Sargent have played an important role in our lives - from the first visit in hospital to lots of advice and guidance - and they are now helping Freya with work experience.”

Derek Mepham carried the Olympic torch through Pevensey and has already raised funds for CLIC by giving people the chance to pose for photographs. He will run in the 2013 London Marathon in aid of the charity and can be sponsored by going to www.bmycharity.com/derekmepham
