Fears dissolved as traders and water bosses go toe-to-toe
Traders and South East Water bosses have thrashed out a plan to tackle concerns over repair work in Herstmonceux.
Villagers met with the company’s representatives to resolve issue surrounding the installation of a new water main in Gardner Street.
The £127,000 project was postponed in November amid fears it would drive away trade and ruin the town.
The meeting - called because of traders’ concerns - gave the company the chance to discuss residents’ worries.
Trader Caroline Davenport-Thomas said: “We resolved some issues and we had a couple of ideas on how the traffic lights would be working. It’s a team effort ,working together and communicating to resolve the issues.”
The Sundial Restaurant will have alternative parking for three weeks during the work, which is due to start on January 3, 2013.
James Smith, delivery manager for South East Water, said: “Although it is essential we carry out this upgrade we want to make sure it has as little impact on the community as possible.”
