THE CHIDDINGLY Festival will be kicking off later this month boasting a whole host of new and local talent.

Now in its 32nd year the festival is renowned for attracting acts of international and national acclaim, as well as supporting new and local talent, and working to bring an energetic and innovative spin to the arts calendar. The festival kicks off on September 23 until October 3 in a variety of venues including the Village Hall, Church, and Six Bells Pub.

Opening and closing with a peal of Bells, the festival packs in an incredibly diverse range of events providing culture, and entertainment.

There’s something for everyone in this year’s programme, including Claire Martin, who was voted best jazz vocalist in 2009, and the Arun Ghosh Horn and Bass Quintet.

For folk fans, Barron Brady are contemporary songwriters and interpreters of English folk song, there will also be a classical concert and the National Saxophone Choir will perform in Chiddingly Church.

At the Beer Festival you can listen to local musicians and bands while enjoying celebrated Sussex Beers and some excellent ciders. If you fancy being more energetic you can take part in Belly Dance and/or Morris Dance Workshops. Comedy this year is provided by Tina C.

The Art and Craft Exhibition provides a great day of creativity for everyone including children.

This year you will see paintings, collage, jewellery, ceramics, textiles, mosaics, and photography.

Children’s workshops are also available in doll making, collage and clay, and there will be performances from Old Star Morris, the Sea Gypsies Belly Dancers, plus a puppet show by Elfin Grove.

The Pub provides the venue for two literary events back by popular demand: story telling with Jamie Crawford and the ever popular Poetry in the Pub hosted by Claire Best.

Chiddingly was also the home of the Surrealists Roland Penrose and his wife Lee Miller.

A drama production named Portrait of Space, describing their lives together, and starring their son and grandaughter will be taking place during the festival.
