Glyndebourne on the hunt for talented locals to join community opera

DO YOU have what it takes to make your mark on Glyndebourne’s main stage? In March 2013 Glyndebourne is staging Imago, its next large-scale community opera and the hunt is now on for a host of talented local people to join the cast.

Fresh from her success designing the Olympic closing ceremony and Kanye West’s recent O2 concerts is Imago designer Es Devlin. She and director Susannah Waters have designed and developed a contemporary new opera examining inter-generational relationships in a digital landscape.

Es explained: “The storyline delivers themes that resonate with almost everyone as they examine love and relationships in an ever-changing digital space.

“Glyndebourne is searching for 50 young people aged 16 and over, plus 30 adults up to the age of 80 to make their mark alongside a professional cast. If you think you have what it takes to be centre stage, why not take your place on the Glyndebourne stage this spring in the world premiere of Imago, the latest of Glyndebourne’s ambitious, community operas.

“Auditions for Imago’s community chorus take place from September 29-October 7 in venues across East Sussex. The team behind the production are focussed on developing rather than establishing talent; they are searching for people with existing levels of skill and experience on a stage. Whether that’s school or college theatre or experience with amateur dramatics at any age, Glyndebourne wants to see you.”

Imago also features a range of solo roles for talented amateur singers. Auditions for these will take place on Saturday, October 13. To register your place at any Imago audition simply email: education@glyndebourne.com.

Director Susannah Waters said: “I am delighted to be returning to Glyndebourne to direct Imago. This is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages from across Sussex to try their luck on the main stage at Glyndebourne; we have a breadth of roles on offer and are seeking talented voices and skilled performers who can add something extra to this engaging community opera.”

Es added: “We are looking for adults and young people with a passion for music and theatre and have the availability to attend Imago’s structured rehearsal period from November 2012-March 2013. There are some exciting soloist roles to fill and the chorus roles should be great fun. The audition period is electrifying for the creative team and we are looking forward to meeting talented and brilliant local performers keen to make Imago a huge success.”
