Hailsham buildings compete for gold

BUILDINGS that show the beauty of Hailsham will be reviewed for the Hailsham Heritage Award Competition 2009.

The competition will boost the town's bid to win gold in the South and South East in Bloom awards this year.

A short list of nominess will be drawn up by the in-bloom committee this month, after which the public will vote at the town council offices to decide the final three contenders.

The competition will recognise works of architecture or landscape design that best protect and promote the heritage of the town.

Deputy mayor and in-bloom committee chairman Cllr Jeff Bentley-Astor said: 'The Hailsham Heritage Award will recognise the important role old and modern architecture can play in preserving and enhancing the fabric of our town.'
