Hailsham club welcomes German and French Rotarians

VISITORS from abroad enjoyed the hospitality of Hailsham Rotary Club.

Some 22 Rotarians from Lille-Ouest in France and Olpe in Germany spent time with their 36 hosts and families last weekend (May 15 to 17).

Ian Baker, president of Hailsham Rotary Club, welcomed the overseas delegation at an anniversary dinner, held at the Boship Hotel in Hellingly.

He said: 'It is with great pleasure that I welcome the members of Olpe and Lille Ouest to Hailsham and our theme this year was local attractions and local hospitality.

'We hope that the regular meetings between our three clubs will continue for many years to come.'

The visitors went to Michelham Priory with a tour of the museum on the Saturday morning.

After lunch in the priory long barn the group looked at a display of medieval armour and weaponry on the moat lawn.

In the evening, at the anniversary dinner, jazz and marching bands entertained the rotarians.

Presidents of the clubs gave speeches and exchanged gifts.
