Plans to add extra bedrooms and a fitness suite to Crockstead Hotel near Halland received a boost when the scheme was recommended for approval by Wealden District Council.
The famous equestrian centre has a luxury hotel alongside. A study by planners revealed hotel use has been operational for several years with the equestrian centre no longer relying on any hostel accommodation.
The scheme was to change the use of the ground floor office block to form five ensuite bedrooms and a communal lounge and convert the attached hall (formerly a saddlery) into a function room and fitness suite with toilets and a bar and servery area.
Retrospective permission is sought for change of use from hostel accommodation to a 12 bedroom hotel.
The application includes improvements to access from the A22.
In their report planners say a commercial hotel use on the site developed over time separate from the originally permitted equestrian use.
The conversion of the redundant building would create employment and tourism opportunities.”
