House gate stolen

AN IRON gate was stolen from a house in Clarence Road, Horsham, overnight on New Year's Eve.

Police say the gate was taken between 10.45pm on December 31 and 2.30am on January 1.

"There have been a number of similar incidents in Horsham over the past few months and this mirrors a national picture of theft of metal," said a police representative.

"It is believed that the rise in the price of scrap metal has increased the attractiveness of this type of property to criminals.

"Police will be working closely with scrap metal merchants throughout Horsham District to ensure they are rigorous in checking the provenance of any scrap they receive."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial 1208 of January 1.
