Introducing Fiddle – the girl with special powers of the past

Fiddle and the see-throughs

Fiddle and the see-throughs

A delightful series of children’s fiction exploring Lewes history has been published by Pomegranate Press.

Fiddle is a young girl with a special gift – she can see people from bygone eras.

Alison Jolly sets the first three titles of her projected six-volume series in Napoleonic times, the Stone Age and the early 14th century heyday of the fearsome William de Warenne, Earl of Lewes.

Meticulously researched, and attractively illustrated by Helen Stanton, the books are packed with adventure – and, of course, have happy endings suitable for their seven-to-10 year age range.

The three books to follow in the spring feature Fiddle attempting to stop Thomas Cromwell ruining Lewes Priory, rescuing Tom Paine from a murderous gang and helping a boy from Every’s Foundry escape from the workhouse to fight the New Poor Law.

The Fiddle series is available from Bags of Books in South Street, Lewes. The volumes are priced at £5.99 each.

Author Alison, who lives in Southover, Lewes, is a primatologist and visiting scientist at the University of Sussex.

A specialist in lemur biology, she is the author of several popular and academic books on the subject, including the six-volume Ako series for children now available at Bags of Books.
