Jobs face axe at builders' suppliers
Wolseley, an international plumbing and building materials group, has announced it is to axe 200 branches and 2,000 members of staff across the UK.
The firm has a plumb and build centre on the Cradle Hill Industrial Estate Seaford and a plumb centre on the Bellbrook Estate, Uckfield.
In the company's interim management statement, released to coincide with its annual general meeting on Tuesday Wolesley said: 'Wolseley UK is announcing today a further programme of cost reduction which will reduce annualised costs by at least 80 million.
'In anticipation of further market decline, the restructuring will be phased over the next few months and when completed is expected to result in headcount reductions of around 2,000, subject to employee consultation, over 200 branch closures and consolidations and exceptional costs of 45 million.'
The redundancies come on top of 5,000 jobs that have been axed since August.
The Express approached the local branches which could be affected but employees said they had been told not to discuss the move.
A spokesman for the company said no decision had been made as to which branches would be axed and wouldnow enter a period of consultation.
