KIRI OPENS COLLEGE'S WAKELY BUILDING

OPERA star Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, who is also patron of Ringmer Community College, officially opened the college's new John Wakely building on Tuesday.

The building, named after the former headteacher, will hold foreign language classrooms and a science laboratory.

Two students, Chloe Powell, 13, and Olivia Sutton, 14, sang for Dame Kiri and other guests at the opening.

The performance included the Sull'aria duet from Mozart's the Marriage of Figaro.

The rest of the morning was a chance for guests to have a look around the building and have drinks and nibbles served by students.

They were also able to view a display of photographs charting the progress of the building and meet everyone that was involved in the construction and planning process.

Dame Kiri cut a ribbon to open the building while Mr Wakely unveiled a dedication plaque.
