Land Rover attack on Lewes parking meter

POLICE are investigating a motorised attack on a Lewes parking meter.
It led to the meter being removed from The Maltings car park near Lewes Castle.
Sussex Express reader John Warburton noted that it had vanished over the weekend and kindly supplied us with a picture.
He asked: “Does the Express know whether this is a planned maintenance, or whether there has been a theft?
“All that remains is a hole. No doubt the police will look into it.”
A spokesperson for Lewes District Council, which is responsible for car parks, said a replacement pay and display meter would be installed as soon as possible.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Just before 3am on Thursday [September 6] residents living near to The Maltings, Lewes, reported hearing a car revving in the nearby car park and saw a Land Rover being used to dislodge a parking meter.
“Police attended and found a flat bed lorry at the scene and this has been recovered. The parking meter was found to be dislodged and at an angle. A 29-year-old local man has been arrested for criminal damage and bailed until October 9.”
